3 Signs That You Are In Need Of An Emergency Garage Door Repair

Blog

You can safely put off making minor cosmetic repairs to your garage door. However, when one of your garage door springs becomes worn or broken putting off the necessary repairs can result in some pretty significant safety concerns. That is why it is so important for homeowners to know the warning signs that they are in need of an emergency garage door repair. In this article, you can learn more about three of those warning signs so that you will be prepared to act quickly if you ever find yourself in this situation.

Warning Sign #1: Your Garage Door Slams Down When Closing

When your garage door springs begin to wear out, these springs will no longer be able to control the weight of your door as it closes. This will cause your door to slam down with significantly more force than it normally does. This can pose a rather serious safety risk and can result in additional damage to your door. Consequently, it is important to have this issue addressed by a qualified repair contractor as quickly as possible.

Warning Sign #2: Your Garage Door Stalls Before Opening

Your garage door springs are largely responsible for lifting the weight of your door. If these springs are not working properly, you will often notice a delay between when you press the button on your remote and when the door actually begins to open. You may also notice the door shake or shutter before opening. This is the result of your automatic door opener trying to compensate for the excess weight that is no longer being supported properly by your door springs. If you do not repair this issue quickly, you will often find that in addition to repairing your springs you may also need to repair or replace your door opener.

Warning Sign #3: You Cannot Manually Lift Your Garage Door

Even without the assistance of an automatic door opener, your garage door should be relatively easy to lift thanks to the springs and pulleys that are used to hang your door. However, if one of your springs is broken or badly worn, you will find that it is much harder to open your door manually. In fact, you will likely be unable to lift your door at all when disengaging your automatic door opener. If you have pulled the manual release cord located near the top of your door and are unable to manually open it, this is a good indication that you are in need of an emergency garage door repair.
